Coping With the Great Resignation
“We are in the midst of the “Great Resignation,” a phenomenon where employees have been quitting their jobs at elevated levels since the beginning of the pandemic. Furthermore, the new trend known as “soft” or “quiet” quitting, where employees only do enough of their tasks to avoid being fired, has come to the forefront.
Various reasons have been cited, but generally, observers believe that the onset of COVID-19 has caused people to reconsider their relationship with their jobs. A debate has gone back and forth over whether or not it is a new development or simply a post-COVID take on worker dissatisfaction, but it is undoubtedly real. Gallup estimates that more than half of all workers could be “quiet quitters.”
Some companies attempt to forge ahead as usual, while others bemoan the lack of work ethic. However, to survive and thrive, an organization must understand why this is occurring and take corrective steps.
According to Muddu Sudhakar, CEO of Aisera:
“About 20-30% of work is highly mundane. No human should be doing that. Eliminating mundane tasks will give people a dedicated block of time where they can focus and not lose their train of thought due to interruptions.”
Automation can eliminate those tasks to a degree thought impossible just a few years ago. The burdensome task of data entry can be almost entirely taken over by CRM integration. Workers benefit from a reduced workload, and an automated data entry system is far less prone to error than a person entering data manually.
Demanding tasks, such as sending custom and time-sensitive emails to donors, are another simple matter for automation. Email remains, without question, the most effective outreach tool, and most of the heavy lifting can be automated.
People apply to work at nonprofits primarily to help others. By cutting down on menial tasks through CRM automation, organizations can complete tasks more quickly and reliably, and preserve their human capital by limiting burnout.
